Hello,
I have had a leak all summer and this fall I did some testing. The pool level falls to just below the water-return that is just below the skimmer in the Hayward skimmer/return unit. I took the cover off the return, and it appears that my dye is going into the return. Really hard to tell. The other tell-tale sign is that the dry well next to the pool tests for salt. It's a salt pool. I put a solid cover on the return with a gasket and put some air into the line. Air comes out the screw holes and I cannot hold any air pressure. So it could be the skimmer but I don't know how to further test it and you really cannot get into the return side of the skimmer to see anything. I never liked this Hayward unit but it's what the pool company said was the best. They don't do leak detection so I'm not sure what to do next. I did find a company to do leak detection in the pool but they didn't find a leak. They didn't do anything with the lines. I'm not losing water in the skimmer side.
Thanks for the help.
John
