Hayward Sand Filter - Sand in Pool

To address sand in my pool, last week I installed a lateral and new sand. The installer said the the pipe connecting to the multiport was cracked at bottom. Sand and new were installed and let run for a week to allow all to settle and cleaned all up. Over the weekend I noticed I am still getting sand. My pressures are in the 18-20PSI range and I backwash/rinse mostly once a week or so. My question is, what else could this be? I even replaced the spyder gasket last year with no luck. Thoughts? Should I just replace the multiport completely?

Thanks!

Are you positive its sand and not algae? Can you pick it up and feel that its sand or does it poof away?

You shouldn't be backwashing that often. We only suggest backwashing when your filter pressure rises 25% over its clean pressure. A *slightly* dirty filter works better to trap schmutz than a pristine clean one does.

Ok, your options include a bad O ring on the MPV and did you use the pool type lube when working on the filter, damaged laterals when inserting the new ones, not guarding the center pipe from sand getting in there when you re-did the filter......

Gonna have to pick one to start with and check it out.....

i too had the same issue last season before closing. I bought new multiport that was cracked. Bought it bought all new laterals new sand and still had sand in the bottom of my pool. What i ended up doing is closing it since it was close to that time of year. I will be opening soon i have a new O ring hoping that fix the issue.
