My pool pump is broken so I ordered a replacement but it looks too big for my system and the pipe outlets on the pump are 2.5" when all my current piping is 1.5". I checked back with Doherty and they are telling me what I have is right for my filter. I have the 1.5HP model 6589 and the filter is Hayward S244T. Are these compatible? I don't want to put too much pressure on my filter. I appreciate the help.

Welcome to TFP! A 1.5 HP pump coupled with the S244T sand filter should be a good match. No hydraulic (pressure) issues that I can see. What you might need to do is ensure you have the correct fittings to go from the Doherty plumbing to the pump itself. You may need an adapter or two. If you need help in that area, post some pics of your system, parts, etc from various angles so we can see everything. We'll be glad to help.

Thank you! Here are some pictures of my current system. I added measurements to one picture. On the instillation instructions it says: it is recommended that a minimum length of piping, equivalent to 10 pipe diameters, be used between the pump suction inlet and any plumbing fitting, so if piping is 1.5 shouldn't I have 15" into the pump instead of the 12" I currently have?

In a technically ideal scenario, probably. But I don't think it's a deal breaker in this case. Not much you can do unless you elect to completely re-do everything (which I would not) and should be fine.
