Hayward Pump overflowing/leaking from the cover

Help! My pump is leaking water from the top cover when the pump is off. Is the O-ring the elastic band inside the cover? If so, I know that has come loose sometimes before and I have had to place it back on.

I have the Hayward PowerFlo Matrix Pump and it's not even two years old yet.

What may assist you to stop that seepage prior to your getting a new replacement is to remove the o-ring, wrap the groove seat with 1 or 2 layers of teflon tape. Replace the old used o-ring into position. That usually works.
just a small amount of build-up can do the job. It is unusual for the o-ring to need replacement after only 2years.
