Hayward Pump dilemma

I’m in the process of purchasing a new pump and sand filter for a 15x30x54” agp. I am trying to decide weather to go with a Hayward S180t92s 1hp powerflo matrix or a S20t92s 1.5hp powerflo matrix pump. The 1.5hp system is the same price. Any suggestions on what System I should pick? Thanks

In most situations, I would always go with the smaller pump. But a larger filter is a plus as well. The larger pump will use about 8% more in energy which isn't a lot. So it really depends on what is more important to you. Saving the energy (~8%) or less frequent filter cleanings (~25% less).

The other option is to buy the pump and filter separate although it will cost quite a bit more.

Thank you! Im thinking of going with the 1hp pump/18" sand filter. The only reason I am questioning it is because I can get the 21" w1.5hp pump for the same price.
