Hi Everyone,

I have a Hayward pool heater Model# H250PED2. When I turn it on, it clicks starts and then shuts off 2 seconds later. The code HR comes on. Any idea if it’s the control board or just the ignition switch. Kind of lost here.

Thanks so much!

Steven

HF is "Flame present with Gas Valve not energized."

This is probably a bad control board.

It means that the board is detecting a flame rectification microamp signal when it should not be getting the signal.

Since there's no flame, it's probably a false detection by a bad board.

What is the general condition of the heater?

What is the serial number?

I don't think that I would put a lot of money into an old heater.

Thank you so much for your input James. Means a lot. Please see pics attached. The pool company said about 400 to fix. What would you do?

I don't think that I would put $400 into it. I suspect that it probably has multiple issues and that the fix will not be enough to get it working again.

I can't read the serial number. That would tell us how old it is.

In any case, it's up to you, but I probably wouldn't invest the money.

Typically, what happens is that the fix works for a short time and then another issue comes up and it's another $400 etc.

Is the gas valve outside the heater closed?

Did that recently get closed?

What fix does the pool company say is needed?

Yes, I recently closed it once it wasn't working...The serial number is: (21) 180601102198001

One pool company said get a new board, the other a new ignition kit.

What heater would you suggest James with mine being off propane.

Thanks again!

Ok, the heater is from January 2006. So, about 13 years.

I wouldn't put any money in it. There's no guarantee that the fix will work or that some other issue won't come up.

I would suggest the Raypak heater. Verify that the gas supply will be sufficient for the heater before buying.
