So I tried searching around for the info I needed, and came up with the same info I already knew. Sand filters NEED to be backwashed frequently. Being in Utah and a huge drought, I figured that's not the best use of water. So I found a nice large Jandy cartridge filter and got a larger pump. Problem solved
BUT as I have read around about the penguin in this case, it says NOT to use on soft sided above ground pools. THAT is the info I am trying to find... WHY???

Fixed the filter and pump issue....

I watched it for about 10 mins scurry around, and its running now as I type this.

Anything I am missing??

I just looked at the users manual and didn't see any restrictions to hard sided pools. Do you have a link?

on this page - Penguin | Hayward Residential and Commercial Pool Products
under the tab for "applications" it says:

Applications​

• Permanently installed above-ground pools (flat or dish bottoms)
• On-ground pools

I assume "on-ground" means intex type pools.

Well I can't find it now...
I ran it for a few hours and it cleaned a good 95% of the pool, including the curves on the bottom.. Pretty impressive....
AND I must say, a LARGE cartridge filter is awesome... no possible issue with sand blow, that I was having before.
Dont get me wrong, the sand filters are heads and tails above the cheapy intex filters.. But take that again and you have your large filter increase.. Granted the $90 or so a year sucks.. but oh well.
