Hello,
I’ve got a Hayward Prologic Controller with a Hayward Max Flo. The problem I sometimes see is that if you press the filter button (turns the pump on/off) too close together, then sometimes the pump receives power (indicated by the main power button lighting up) but the button simply flashes and the pump is not actually on. My question is: how do I make sure I allow enough time between pool/spa mode switching that the pump always turns on?

From reading the Max Flo documentation, it seems like the manufacturer suggests some kind of delay like 30 seconds between turning off and turning on.

To make matters more complicated, the freeze protection turns on and is moving between spa and pool mode. It was working fine mostly but when I woke up this morning, the pump was flashing, filter button on, but the pump wasn’t actually running. Soon as I press the button, it started and all was well (thankfully). It’s been running great (moving between pool and spa) ever since. I’m concerned that the same thing will happen again in the next 24hrs (presumably when I’m sleeping) and I dont want anything to freeze up.

I’ve confirmed as much that the intervals are setup properly on the XE pump itself and the controller simply treats the pump as a single speed pump.

What I’m trying to find out is how do I add delay for when the Prologic Controller is switching between pool and spa mode, such that I allow > 30 seconds so the XE pump will always turn on? I have the Prologic manual and been reading and searching and I’m coming up empty.

Thank you for your help or suggestions.

I have a MaxFlo VS pump with an AquaLogic controller but have not seen that particular issue. Are you simply pressing the filter button twice? I have done that within a second without any issue.

I generally see it triggered by me during a backwash where I’m pressing filter (off), changing the backwash lever, then pressing filter (on) all Less than 30 seconds.
I’m raising the question only because it happened during freeze protection (ie automation and not by a person).

If it only happens with freeze protection, that may explain the behavior. I would avoid trying to override the controller when in freeze protection mode. Wait till the air temps rise.

The MaxFlo XE pump manual states:
Important: Any time power is removed and re-applied to the pump, such as turning off a switch or breaker, the pump will restart the daily schedule at the beginning of Interval 1. The start of the daily schedule will always be the time at which power is applied to the pump. Note that when power is removed from the pump, the LED will blink for a short period and you must wait for the LED to fully turn off before reapplying power. This may take up to 30 seconds. If power is applied while the LED is still blinking, the motor will not start for 6 minutes. This delay can be overridden if the button is pressed.

The Freeze Protection seems to interfere with this sometimes and I'm not sure why.
