Hayward HP50 Heatpump operation

I found two versions of the manual and I too find it kind of baffling that they don’t describe the Silent feature (as Smart Mode is automatically set). However, I’ll give you me educated guess and I‘m pretty sure it’s correct. Silent mode operates, obviously, more quietly, than Smart Mode. In doing this (operating more quietly) it is must be either operating less effectively or less efficiently. If not, it would be the default mode. And Smart mode uses either mode (silent or standard) depending on it’s ability to satisfy thermostat settings based on the ambient conditions in order to be most efficient. So I can’t say exactly what is occurring during the Silent mode but think “it costs more to run it this way full time - but if I want it quiet, choose it selectively”.
