Hayward Cartridge Filter Locking Knob Problem

Welcome to TFP! Sounds like somewhere, somehow there's a tiny gap that is preventing the top from setting-down all the way. If you are still wrestling with the whole thing, I would do the following:
- Look carefully at the base of the knob where it sits onto the top housing. It should press down completely. No gap at all. If it's not, you may need to remove everything underneath (e-clip, cone, etc) to ensure it's all assembled correctly.
- The center rod should screw-in firmly into the base. I used a pipe wrench to "gently" get a good grip on that rod to ensure it was firmed screwed in all the way.
- When I get ready to place the top housing onto the rod, I first place some pool silicone onto those rod threads at the top. It seems to help allow everything to mate a little easier.

Good luck!
