Bought our house almost a year ago with an in ground pool. First time with a pool. Ever. It was late in the season so we had about a month or less of pool time before the leaves started to fall and the water started to cool. I remember having to keep adding (lots) of salt to the pool to keep the SWCG happy. I remember thinking "I don't think this is right". But I literally had no idea.

Fast forward to spring, went to the same pool store the the previous owner went to. Everything ok for awhile, then I had algae. I shocked at their recommendation. Thought it was gone, then one night about a month ago I decided to top off the pool using well water. Next morning, the bottom of the pool was black with splotches. Heart attack. Been battling that algae ever since. Now, the final straw was when we were planning on having a bunch of kids over. I was panicked to get rid of the algae in time. After I did what I thought was shocking I let the levels drop and then turned SWCG back on (oh, I had to buy a new one of those since the one I had bad feelings about was over 7 years old). So I take a sample to the store. Chlorine level was still "10". They advised leave SWCG off and add hardness up. Two days after that I go back and they tell me chlorine is still at "10". So add this stuff to reduce chlorine. Also were surprised my CH level was so high (well I added a bunch of what you told me to dangit). This all gave me a bad feeling. Went home, used test strips, and saw chlorine was practically zero. Now what do I do? Went to another pool store and their test more closely matched mine. OK fine, I'll switch stores. As it turns out they were even more in the camp of "add this cool stuff" than the other place was. I was going crazy!!!

I've always been the type to change my own oil in our cars, and use the 'net to find ways to fix them cheaper than the dealer or even independent mechanics. It's a natural then that I found this site, it's right up my alley. Now that I'm using TFP method I finally feel I'm in control of our pool. Everyone I've interacted with has been very helpful. I bought the Pool Math app for my phone, and when I return from vacation I'll be a supporter. This place is great!! Thanks everybody!
