Greetings from the Mitten

Okay, so I started the deep clean even though the sand didn't look that dirty...and the water was a little cloudy but it mostly looked like sand that was coming out of the top. Have other people experienced this? I hate to just waste water.

the sand will not float, it is probably clumped up dirt that your seeing, some people have had to go 30 minutes of deep cleaning to get clear water :)

Deep cleaning went ok, numbers are stabilizing....one interesting thing is that I used a test strip the other day and it finally (!!!!) had a CYA reading. So I used the kit, and....nothing. Have not tested today.

Vacuum is still returning dirty water. So what is the next step? I read on some other site (don't remember what one) that it could be that the dead algae particles are too small to be filtered by the sand? Is that true/does that make sense? Of course it was returning larger debris also.

Is it just that the pool is too dirty and j need to vacuum to waste?

Still no cya reading with the test kit. Pool is clearer some days than others. Still having problems with dirty water returning through the jets, and the slightly leaking waste pipe.

Did the deep cleaning of the filter and it didn't seem that bad. Also, our spider gasket was replaced earlier this year.

Help?

Oooooo I'll try the DE. I've wasted so much water. I might try filling it with water again too and trying the broom handle thing. Because it's definitely returning things like bugs too.

If that doesn't work, what's the next step in troubleshooting? Whole new multiport valve?

Yeah it's been 2+ weeks. And I've been adding it via the trichlor tabs as well as the granules in a sock method.

Okay. So I just looked at the gigantic mess below one of my returns....and I'm pretty sure this is sand. Does that mean I have a broken lateral?
