Hello, all!

Long-time lurker/researcher here for what feels like well over a decade. My wife and I were originally going to have an above-ground pool installed at that time, which led me to researching and finding this forum. After picking out the size that felt right to us, and then throwing the tape measure around the backyard, we realized between the pool and a deck, we wouldn't have enough yard left to be 100% happy with the layout. We decided to push off the pool idea until we upgraded our house and property, and got a boat instead. :) I still visited TFP on occasion to keep researching various topics and stay fairly up to date knowing we'd revisit the pool idea again.

Fast-forward to 2016 when we decided to finally upgrade our house. We made sure to find enough property to support our desire for a decently sized pool while leaving enough "land" for our dog to run and play. I had electrical and plumbing for the pool done as part of the new home build. Moved into the house in January of 2017, and sadly sold our boat that spring to prepare for the costs of a pool. We have finally reached that point!

We just signed a deal to have a Latham Pools Corinthian 16 in Coastal Bronze G2 pool installed; a 15,400 gallon 16'x40' fiberglass pool with an approximately 8'x16' tanning ledge. I decided on fiberglass due to our Boxer being such an active member of the family when relaxing and playing, and I didn't want to risk vinyl tears/cuts from dog nails on the tanning ledge. The Corinthian 16's ledge was a huge draw for us, still leaving approximately 32' of pool left to swim.

For the equipment we are getting, here's a breakdown:
- Intelliflo VS+ Variable Speed Pump
- Pentair Rainbow Chlorinator
- 3 Pentair GloBrite Lights with Intellibrite controller
- Pentair UltraTemp 120 Heat Pump (heat/cool)
- Pentair TR 60 sand filter
- 2 bubblers for tanning ledge
- Pre-plumbed line for slide that will be added later

We are starting with trichlor to kick things off, understanding there is a possibility of switching to salt down the road. Surprisingly, the builder actually recommended that approach to help keep initial costs down and knowing I was headed down the path of borates for stabilization. My intent is to get the pool started with the Chlorinator and trichlor simply out of convenience since that is what the pool builder gets the pool set up with, but shift to using liquid chlorine soon after the pool is running. In the research I've done, I didn't see any downfalls to this approach assuming I switch to liquid chlorine sooner than later to prevent the inherent CYA level increase.

Anyway, my backstory. If all goes according to plan, we'll at least have a few weeks of swimming before having to it shut down for cold weather, but will be ready for immediate use next season.
