For the past two weeks I have been trying to lower the TA in my pool. It was at 230 when I began the process and it is still at 230. I lowered the pH to 7.2 then used aeration to raise the pH to 7.8. Yet, after two weeks the TA hasn't budged. I will say that my FC has been about perfect going between 4.0 and 5.5. Usually no or very low CC (0 -.5). The water is clear as can be. Other levels are:
CYA 70
CH 300
Salt 3600

This is always about where my TA has been over the 4+ years since opening the pool and this process has never worked to lower it. I thought I'd give it one more try but no luck yet anyway.

How crucial is it to get TA to the right number if all else seems to be really good?

One item of note; my SWCG (pentair IC40) is starting it's fifth year. It has yet needed to be acid cleaned (ever). No build ups noted by observation and no signal from the IC40 to clean it. Not sure if that's related at all, but thought I'd throw that in just in case.

That works every time. It will work in your pool just like the thousands of other pools in which it works.

Not crucial at all. I would not try to fix something when all your other indicators are telling you it's not broke.
