From Swamp Green to light green and cloudy

I stopped the SLAM bc of the money I was wasting. Took a few days off to reasses. Just kept pump running. No activity. It even rained a couple of time.

Pool is significantly more clear. I can see the bottom of the shallow end and more blue.

Can anyone explain what just happened?

I feel you as I am going through a similar process as we opened last weekend - I was a bit nervous as we typically need 2 gallons and 3-4 days but this time 3+ gallons and 5-6 days.

A few things to share:
1. I didn't vacuum the algae (to waste) as much as I did in previous seasons so expected to take a week at least
2. took 3 gallons to get to "somewhat cloudy" (from dark green) over 4+ days
3. backwashed often as the pressure climbed
4. on 4th day of opening, cleaned the filter (I have DE) and recharged DE
5. the inside of DE filter / screen was dark green (more so than usual)

Not sure how sand filter works but you may want to double check as well. Good luck and keep us posted

Sounds like you were turning a corner right about the time you got frustrated, and with the FC loss slowing down, it mostly held while you waited.

Get that FC right back up or you risk losing valuable ground.

This....we don't want the algae to win....and come back. I have experienced that in the past when I thought "oh, almost there," only for algae to bloom again
