I've had my pool a few years but still not so sure what to do in freezing weather. It seems it is happening more frequently, and happened in February last year, too!
I can't decide if I should drain my filter/pump and turn everything off, or gamble that my power will stay on. If it does go out, I don't know if it will be cold long enough to do damage or not...
The storm is supposed to start around 1AM tonight.
My energy company is sending out text saying we might lose power due to the ice.

Heres the forecast:
Tonight
Rain before 1am, then rain or freezing rain. Low around 28. North northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.2 to 0.4 of an inch possible.
Thursday
Rain or freezing rain before 10am, then snow and sleet between 10am and 4pm, then a chance of snow after 4pm. High near 30. Wind chill values as low as 17. North northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday Night
A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Wind chill values as low as 14. North wind around 10 mph.
Friday
Partly sunny, with a high near 38. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
Friday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 16. North wind around 5 mph.
Saturday
Sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming east southeast around 5 mph.

A low of 28F should be nothing to be concerned about. I only get concerned when temps go below 20F for at least 8 hrs. This might be helpful:

Consult or download manuals for your equipment. Locate all drain plugs per the parts diagrams in person before you need to. If the in between pipes have unions you can remove and empty them if the need arises and the temps get worse than they're saying. Or if another round comes next week. For the short term without temps well below freezing, you're only real concern is anything above ground as the ground will insulate anything below.

There's not much immediate concern this week for you but still go out there for a mental dry run. You don't want to be figuring it out at 2am if it hits worse than they think.

So have your plan and use your judgement at the time if you think the power will be off for an extended time or if it will be cold enough to have more concern.
