"Floating" or "Circular" Weir for STA-RITE U-3 Skimmer

Anybody know if there is a floating/circular weir setup that will fit/work well in the STA-RITE U-3 Skimmer? My installation guide says it's this model, the guide is copyrighted 2015. There is a number on the bottom of the skimmer throat, I believe it's the part number, it is 8650-87 X. I believe the Pentair U-3 skimmer may be the same thing.

I removed the weir door due to constant banging against the stop (lap pool swimming).

I'm interested in looking into these floating/circular weirs as a possible solution (so I can leave the door off), which I believe is a two piece device with a skimmer basket and another cylinder which fits just inside that basket and floats up and down just below the water surface, creating a current over its edge which provides the skimming action.

The Skim Doctor is probably the best option on the market as stated above, but for some reason the floating weir has never been adapted for other skimmers. The SD is also a bit cumbersome to clean out.
Coincidentally, I have been modifying the floating weir to fit the other skimmer models. I work on older pools where the sides of the skimmer throat are bowed in or deformed, so I can't get a standard weir to work. Also even if I do get the weir in, they are always popping out.
