Flapper in skimmer gets stuck and blocks water....

The square flapper gets stuck every once in a while when pump starts first thing in morning and blocks the water and pump and filter is sucking in air. I caught it happening today but what happens if I'm not home or not paying attention.

Can you post a photo of the skimmer that shows the attachment points. Somebody should be able to help you with adjustments.

You will need to determine exactly where it is sticking.
It may need a slight trimmimg or sanding - or you may be missing the stop it rests against when the pump is off causing in to jam.

In any case, you don't want to let the pump run dry.

Indeed the root cause of the weir sticking must be found and fixed. My neighbor had that happening from time to time, his pool guy always saying it was a mystery why he had to keep replacing the pool pump - about once per year. One day I overheard the pump laboring dry and found a small cement aggregate / plaster protrusion. Chipped it away, no more new pool pumps.
