Thanks to the help from all you kind folks here my pool is currently “trouble free”.

For the last two years though, I would have an algae problem in the hot summer months; mostly in August. Algae would grow on the side of the pool that gets the morning sun. This was aggravated by the very warm pool water eating chlorine tabs like candy and my occasionally forgetting to add tabs on time.

Now I have the salt cell, so adding tabs won’t be a problem, but I’m wondering if I should take preventative measures to head off the algae.

Any thoughts?

An initial thought is make sure you know your CYA number and test FC frequently. Brush once a week. If your SWG is dialed in, and you test frequently to account for variations in bather load, heat and sun, in theory there is no chance of algae.

2 strikes right there, both cured by the SWG if it's producing enough FC. If you'd like some insurance, use the LC side of the chart and set high target as your minimum. You have leeway above target range all the way up to SLAM (40% of CYA) and next to no leeway below target range.

Maybe I'd care less with a much longer season but we don't get alot of time to use the pool in the Northeast so I run hot to ensure we don't lose a week or two to algae.
