Fix structural pool leak

Hi,

We have a leak in our ~40 year old pool. There is a crack that runs down the pool under the skimmer. We are in the process of replastering (actually replacing plaster with quartzite), and have gotten different advice on how to fix the leak. Our current pool builder is suggesting he will put rebars and new gunite, while another one is suggesting staples.

Any advice?

Just in case you aren't familiar with staples (there are several types but the principle is the same):

I would expect that new gunite would reduce the size of the pool, I think another method is epoxy fill..
