First winter with SWG pool - leaving it open near Houston TX

Last pool was not SWG and it was taken out by tornado in October so I don't know what average water temp is in the winters here. Some years we don't have a hard freeze, some years we do, but it never stays too cold long enough to justify closing the pool.

First cold front came through and water is already down to 66 degrees. I know SWG doesn't generate chlorine if water is below 60. (owners manual says 50) Should I just shut off the generator altogether and switch to bleach for the winter? And if so, should I lower my CYA (currently 70) and raise FC to levels recommended on the chart for non SWG pools and then run the pump when adding chlorine or during times when a freeze is possible?

Also should I insulate the exposed pipes just to be safe? Any advice appreciated especially if you live in this crazy climate.

I would not bother with insulation in houston....it doesn't get cold enough long enough. I would also leave the CYA as is, chlorinate as you say but for a CYA of 70 which will bring your maintenance level to around 6-8 ppm. Next, run your pump as you say.
