Hello all,

I just wanted to get some advice.

I am about to go on vacation for a week and I don’t want anything to go wrong with my pool. (Had some trouble a few months ago and now everything has been perfect for the past month and a half. Water so clear it feels like there isn’t even water in the pool.)

I am currently using Liquid chlorine and I keep it between 4 and 6. CYA is between 30 and 40.

Essentially after a day my chlorine drops to around 4-4.5 and then in the evening I add enough to get it to 6. Been doing that for a month and things are perfect.

Since I will be gone for a week what do you all recommend I do? I still have some chlorine tabs that came with the pool, should I just throw some in there for the week and then check and balance when I get home?

My wife’s sister is going to come by a few days to feed our animals and possibly swim, but I don’t trust her to add any chemicals.

Any tips would be helpful!

Thanks,

Brett

Raise FC to SLAM using liquid, then throw 2-3 tabs in a floater (not skimmer.)
Easy peasy.

Moving forward - you need to raise your FC target. You're flirting with danger running so close to minimum. There's no drawback, all benefit to running on high end of target.

Here are my test results from about an hour ago.

I have been using the pool math app and I always keep FC on the high end of the ideal range as it recommends me to be at 4, but if I did that I would would probably be at 1.5 - 2 after a really sunny day.

My pool has been perfect for almost 2 months now and I haven’t even shocked the pool once in that span. Even when I brush I get no clouding or stuff settling at the bottom, so I would be hard pressed to think I have some sort of organic issue.

If the CYA reading falls between any two markings on the test vial, round up to the next larger/higher number.
A reading of "35" gets rounded up to 40 and gets entered in PoolMath as CYA 40.

A pool maintained to TFP standards NEVER needs to be "shocked".

That’s great to know. I have been following TFP standards for 2 months now and have never had a single issue. Before I was shocking once or twice a week and felt like I could never swim.

I found TFP, slammed the pool (took about 12 pounds of shock until it passed the 3 tests) and ever since it’s been perfect.

I was worried about if I ever needed to shock, but it’s good to know that if I maintain everything then I don’t need to.

Thanks to everyone here, things have been so much easier.
