First time trying TFP, pool just opened

Still looking good, last test tonight:

FC: 26.5
CC: .5
Temp is 67

Looking forward to the morning's results and test the CYA for the first time since adding the stabilizer.

The water looks great. Can't wait to heat it up this weekend and take a dip.

Again, I thank all who offered their expertise and urged perseverance.

You can skim the ammonia test at this point. You won. Just a heads up, morning readings are more likely to show some CC since there was no sunlight to help burn them off. This doesn't change your plans to maintain SLAM/SHOCK FC per [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA], just a heads up that even if you show 0.5 CC in the AM in the future, it may well be 0.0 CC in the evening.

Just a double check that you're using the 10mL FC test and drop instructions instead of the 25mL.

Lastly, the generic/house/store brand megamart bleach is usually freshest in the household cleaning aisle and the 8.25% regular no fanciness is usually a better deal than the 6% and oftentimes the freshest. I'm like you though, I'd buy two weeks worth of the 4 back higher % as long as the date code is within the last 90...maybe up to 120 days.

Feel free to ask the small questions as you think of them. You can always re-read the answers we post later on.

Hello,
I was hoping to get out a bit earlier this morning to test, however the results are still encouraging. The CC is gone.

FC: 25.5
CC: 0
temp 66

I tested the CYA level since I was poolside and may not be again today until lunch time so I figured I would give it a shot. The water in vial wasn't very cloudy at all after mixing, (it is also overcast here at time of the test) it looked like the dot started to fade when the comparator was full around 30 but couldn't be sure as it was filled to top. I added the stabilizer around 1pm yesterday. Is it possible it is not fully registering yet as it has been about 17 hours since I got the last of stabilizer into the pool? I hung a sock with my last pound of stabilizer again.

Battle: I am using the 10ml section of the test. At this point I have 8 gallons of bleach left over, now I have the luxury to shop for it and see who has the best deal.

ETA: Chemistry was never my strong suit, but as I am understanding now the CC level being zero (zero the best case scenario, correct?) means the FC has the ability to work as it should. As long as that level is less than .5 and the FC is in range all is good chlorine wise (thinking out loud here)

Thank you.

Looks like a pass to me!

The CYA may not be registering yet.

You are correct, if the CC is no more than 1 drop, no need to worry. Just keep the FC in range and you should have a great summer!

you still SLAM Process until you pass all 3 ending criteria, one of which is Overnight Chlorine Loss Test which you haven't done yet, so you're still SLAMing.

Also, are you able to brush the pool?

if so, do so, and be careful/mindful to avoid dragging the brush head/corners on the liner. Only the soft bristles should touch. If you can't get every nook, so be it. 90% is still 90% better than 0%.

Gents, the water looks the clearest I have seen it since it was built 4 years ago.

I got the FC up to 34 by adding 2 gallons of bleach. I will monitor it for the remainder of the day and continue to brush and perform the overnight test again and see what where we stand in the morning.

Another question, since I have not turned my SWCG on yet and the pool is running without it, should I be following the suggested shock levels for a pool with SWCG or without a SWCG?

without a SWCG

They are the same in both cases. If you ever have to shock the pool again as part of a SLAM, you want to shut off the SWG anyway. The SWG is meant to add chlorine to the pool slowly. You do not want to use it to raise the FC level. It's purpose is to slowly replace what FC you lose daily without you really noticing. If your FC drops drastically, use liquid chlorine to bring it back up quickly and then adjust the SWG from there by raising either the output percentage or the amount of time you run the pump.

You're doing great!!! Nothing urgent here, but yes, getting CYA to your goal and next time FC falls under 10 doing a PH test too. Friendly reminder, now that' you've been able to relax a good deal, please re-read the Pool School CYA Test page, and be sure to view the endpoint photo in the notes section. Full light at your back, waist, height, glancing not staring.... all important. Repour/Retest the same water sample until confident. Ask any questions.
