Hi everyone, I’m glad a came upon your site. I’m a first time pool owner and having trouble getting levels in order despite having a very crystal clear blue pool. Hope I can get answers to my questions. I have about a 28,000-30,000 unground pool with liner.
I had my pool opened a week and an half ago and it was very green with a lot of residue to clean out. The company came and uncovered the pool and shocked the pool using liquid chlorine. We had to replace broken parts in The filter system, which is a DE filter, as the previous owner bandaged up. The pump was left in circulation while the parts came a few days later with chlorine tablets. Parts were replaced and reopening process was started and completed. We decided to follow up with cleaning and maintenance ourselves to save ourselves additional expense. We vacuumed, brushed and skimmed the pool every day and ran the filter 24/7 and noticed the water getting better.
We decided to take a sample to Leslie and our cya levels were off the chart at 208. They told us to dump and replace water which we were reluctant to as we’re in a septic and well water area, but opted to do so slowly. We also released water by vacuuming on waste on the filter while returning water from the hose. The more we did that the more the water improved in color and clarity. Took another sample two days later and cya was at 180. Continued the same process and today took another sample which read 185 but the pool is extremely transparent now in color, but levels are off.

I don’t know what else to do other than continue cleaning out the bottom of the pool which still has some very fine debris while not over working by well pump to death. I’m feeing defeated and wondering if it’s even worth continuing this process if I can’t get cya to normal levels. Seem it’s nothing is working and I feel my kids won’t get to enjoy the pool at this rate.
Looking for any and all suggestions and knowledge from you experienced experts.
