First time opening GREEN pool with TFP. HELP!!

YUCK!!!! My pool is a mess!!!! Worst I’ve ever seen it on opening. Need HELP!!!

Pool store dumped 5 gallons of bleach in before I could test....I did test CYA which came up 0. Socks are in skimmers to bring it up to 40.

Heres my numbers.

CYA 0
FC 2.0
CC 4.0
TC 1
TA 90
PH 6.8

My plan was to first get the CYA up while trying to maintain chlorine levels. Then SLAM.....

I cant see the bottom of the pool and the pool has a yellow hue from the horrific pollen we had this year.

Question.....Should I start brushing the pool down or wait for SLAM? Once clear, do I have to vacuum to waste or can I use my automatic vacuum? My manual vacuum is difficult for me to use (the older I get the worse it is) but if I have to I will
solicit a neighbornor friend.

Just confised as to the order of things. I’ve read so many posts and seems everyone has different situations so it just confuses me more.

I’d appreciate any and all help!! -Julie

It' generally never a bad time to brush.

I would be happier to see teh pH at 7.2. 6.8 is probably the lowest number on the scale and we don't know if it's really 6.8 or something lower.

From Pool School:

PH can be raised in three ways: borax, soda ash, and aeration. Borax is usually the best choice. Borax raises the PH and also raises the TA level just a little. If your TA level is low soda ash will raise both the PH and TA levels. If your TA level is high, aeration is best as it will not raise the TA level at all. However, aeration is rather slow compared to the other two.

Borax is available as 20 Mule Team® Borax Natural Laundry Booster. It is sold in the laundry detergent section of most larger grocery stores and some big box stores. Borax is best added by pre-dissolving it in a bucket of water and then pouring that slowly in front of a return.

Soda ash is available as ARM & HAMMER® Super Washing Soda Detergent Booster. Do not confuse this with ARM & HAMMER® laundry detergent! It is sold in the laundry detergent section of most larger grocery stores and some big box stores. It is also sold by pool stores under various names, including PH Increaser, PH Up, Balance Pak 200, etc. Soda ash is best added by pre-dissolving it in a bucket of water and then pouring that slowly in front of a return.

Aeration can be provided by a SWG, spa jets, waterfall, fountain, return pointed up so it breaks the surface, air compressor, kids splashing, rain, etc. It can take some time for aeration to raise the PH. The higher your TA level, the faster aeration will work.

I’m getting there! Pool cover came off 3days a go and two of those days were raining cats and dogs non stop. I managed to get CYA in the pool and raised my PH to 7.2. I was just putting bleach in to maintain. Today however my CYA was 30 so I began the SLAM. I decided to put the filter on recirculate for 24-48 hours to see how that worked. So far so good. I checked levels every hour and added more bleach when needed. The color is coming back but I still can’t see what lies on the bottom. I began brushing this evening. I may turn off recirculate tomorrow and start filtering. Hope that’s ok to do. With all the yuck I’m seeing, I will be vacuuming to waste soon. Just wish I could see the bottom. I have a few pics but need to switch from iPad to phone....

i hope im doing this right.......

If you can get in there with your leaf rake and get some of the gunk out, your SLAM will proceed a bit quicker because your chlorine won’t be fighting debris and can focus on algae.

Yes, you are limited to photo space, but if you decide to become a TFP supporter, you get more. AND you get a nifty badge by your name. ;)
