First time closing

Hi Guys,

Just looking for some feedback on the closing of my pool. I’m a new pool owner so this is the first time I’ve closed a pool. I’m a plumber.

Jets - Made up a piece of pipe that I can screw into my jets. This extends above the water level. I blew these out with air, poured in some antifreeze and then capped

Skimmer - I have a combo skimmer. I made a piece of pipe with a valve. I used this to blow out my main drain and then closed the valve to create an air lock. I blew out the suction line from my pump and then poured in some antifreeze and plugged that hole with a screw type plug. I then used a sponge to remove all the water from my skimmer. Then I put a pool noodle in my skimmer box and filled the box half way with antifreeze.

Anything I should have done differently?

Make sure your water level is below the tile line enough that even if you get some precipitation, it will remain below the tile line. If it is on the tile line, you risk tile issues if it freezes.

Here is a video I made for closing.

I'd use blow through bungee plugs in the returns. If the ice rink shifts while it still has a hold of your elbow pipe, it could damage the return in a hard to get to location.

If you add a gallon of antifreeze from the pad side, it should find the low spot on its own.
