First test results. Thoughts please?

Good morning Nehal :) How are you testing...do you have one of the recommended kits so we know those numbers are good?

We need you to keep track of how many pucks are being used. Each puck is going to add CYA to your pool (which you DO need) but we don't want to accidentally overshoot it. Its a pain to have to drain water and refill just to lower too-high CYA. Remember you can use liquid chlorine as soon as your CYA starts to get near your goal level!! Or just start using it now and add stabilizer individually and get it over with.

Take your CH up a bit to 350. If you let it stay low the water will leach calcium from your new walls....no bueno!

Is this a gas heater? Be careful to not let the pH go lower as heater elements do *not* like low pH and we don't want to see them get damaged. 7.4 is a good bottom number for you at this time. Or, isolate your heater from the system if possible when dropping pH lower. New plaster requires frequent acid additions while the surface cures so it may be something you'll be doing frequently for months to come.

Welcome to the forum.

In your 30000 gallon pool, each 8 oz puck will add about 1.8ppm to FC and 1.1ppm to CYA. At about 2 pucks a day, in two weeks you'll have about 30ppm of CYA, which is a good starting point for CYA. Unfortunately, during those two weeks, the sun is going to burn off almost all your FC while the CYA level is still building.

We recommend using liquid chlorine, aka bleach, for daily chlorination, and manually adding CYA to bring the level up quickly.

A great source of 12.5% liquid chlorine is Ocean State Job Lot. 1-gallon jugs are $2.99

In your pool, one gallon of 12.5% will add about 4ppm to FC, so expect to use about 3/4 to 1 gallon daily.

Please let us know which test kit you are using.

Thanks for posting, nice to have you with us.

Thank you so much for the quick replies and welcome. The test kit is the Taylor 2006.

Heater is not connected yet. Won't be for approximately 30 days while plaster is curing.

I will check on pucks. Thanks for the chlorine tip. Will pick some up today. As for CYA and Calcium, what do you recommend to increase the levels?

Thank you again.
