It will work but painfully slowly. You can permanently lower TA by acid/aeration method or you can ignore it and let it fall naturally and sl-o-owly but I believe you will have to add acid far fewer times if you lower the TA (per the article) down to 60-80.
 
My TA is also a little high (started at 140. Tested at 110 before last time. 120 this time, but I’m guessing user error), which makes the ph drift up pretty easily. I just use acid to keep the ph in check. I take it to 7.6 when it hits 7.8. It’ll probably take all summer, but it seems to be working. TA is very slowly lowering. I’ve only used a gallon of acid this year along with some dry acid the PB left me.
