Well, finally replacing the old mechanical timer. As Rancho pointed out, the simplicity and cost of the Sonoff makes it the way to go. Once I realized all I have to do is to pull the mec timer out of the box and some simple wiring, it became a no brainer! FYI, no more R3, discontinued.
A wiring question. The packaging shows load and common for connections. Safe to say for 220 that becomes L1 and L2?
I am going with the RFR2 instead of the basic, difference being it also has 433MHZ control capabilities too.

If the common is white put some black electrical tape near the termination point.

I think I found the previous thread where a SWG was discussed. For 220, L1 and L2 from the breaker connect to the input side. SWG connects to output side. If using a metal box, confirm you have a good WiFi signal to the switch.

Yes, that’s what I was wanting to confirm! Wifi is iffy at that location, but considering the ease of installation- gutting the Intermatic and using it’s enclosure- I will work around the WiFi issues! Also, I am on the verge of turning my house over to my daughter and hubby. He is already an Alexa freak, and this fits right in!
Thanks much for your guidance and gentle persuasion!
