Filter with high psi reading

I just opened my pool today and got the filter going and it's reading 40psi when off and 50psi when on. Used to read around 10 or so when running..

The water is circulating. Great and the return is pumping really strong.

The filter is a Hayward perplex ec40.

Any idea what it can be??

Sounds like you need to replace the gauge. Pressure should be zero when not running. Welcome.

It's a bad gauge. With the pump off, pressure should read zero. Changing it isn't a whole lot more complicated than changing a light bulb. You might need a wrench and you'll need to wrap some teflon tape around the threads, but otherwise it's just screw out and screw back in.
