Until recently I've been under the assumption that a filter should be run long enough each day to turn over the volume of water in the pool. I'm wondering what the minimum time I should be using now. I have a 2hp single speed pump and about 30k gallons of water. I am currently running 8 hours a day, but I would like to reduce the time to save some money if I can.

See my thread answered well by a few TFP Experts. If your pool is clear and chemicals in balance, you are just mixing the water when running the pump. Get your single speed on a timer for best results and run it 4-8 hours per day.

Need for Turnover of Pool Water in System
Moved from here. Turnover is meaningless. So do not worry about that. As you use liquid chlorine, your primary reason to run the pool pump is to skim the surface. So run it at a high enough rpm and long enough to achieve that. Also be sure to add your liquid chlorine during the run time. Or...
