Filter fiber

I have a cartridge filter and still have a ton of fine particles in my water that are visible at night with the lights on. I'm trying to figure out a simple way to get my water cleaner

Has anyone used Jack's Filter Fiber (or something similar) in a cartridge filter? Does it work?

Idk, you can try shutting the pump off for awhile, 12 hours or more, to see if they will sink and then vac up

Perhaps a some questions we should ask before we endorse using any supplimental product are:
1 - What size Hyward filter do you have (not in sig)? Example, I have the Hayward C1200 for my 17.8K pool and I don't ever recall having particles floating.
2 - We should try to ID what those particles are (organic, calcium, etc). Can you post a full set of water results?
3 - When was the last time you rinsed-off yoru cartridge?

In adition, our areas are blooming like crazy. Any chance what you are seeing is pollen or related to spring blooms? Are you using a skimmer sock as well?

1. 350 square feet
2. What kind of water test are you looking for? Basic pH/alkalnity/etc or do you want a metal test?
3. It's been a little bit, but this has been a consistent problem, not just recently

And yes, Austin is blooming like crazy. But again, this isn't just a recent thing. I've never had what I would call "crystal clear" water in the year we've had the pool (we built it)

Do you run your pump 24/7? Do you vac the pool bottom and walls regularly?

Test results of: pH, FC, CC, CH, TA, CYA, salt the results of the TF100 test kit. How often do you test?

If you had a DE filter you could filter finer particles. Everyone will see particles in water at night with your pool lights illuminating the water. You would see the same in tap water at a high volume if it were illuminated.

After we get a look at your test results, you might consider trying to take a pic of the floaters you're talking about. It may help.

Most everyone in this thread is missing a common issue......visible particles with the lights on at night is the rule and not the exception. What does your water look like in the daytime? Got a pic......of either or both?

The water looks great during the day. It's only with the lights on at night that you see them.

I've owned a pool before with a sand filter, and that water never had particles, even at night, so I thought the cartridge filter was probably the culprit. It's really not that bad - I was just thinking that fiber might be a simple solution

Is your pump a VS? How many RPM's are you running?

No, single. My pool is small, so I run it for about 4 hours a day

A 2 HP single speed pump is wa-a-a-y overkill for a 7500 gallon pool. Assuming your filter is sized to the pool, you may very well be forcing some particles through the filter because the pump is too strong. What is the GPM rating of your filter?

That's what our pool builder put in. We have a hot tub that runs on the same pump, so maybe that's why.

The filter is a Hayward C3030. Rated at 122GPM

At 122 gpm, the filter matches the pump fine so that should not be an issue. I can think of no other reason why the particles you see are excessive

Open your cartridge filter and make sure there are no rips or holes blown in it (be sure to thoroughly peek into the pleats!) and make sure the top & bottom of the filter is sealing/seating properly. My cartridge filter (and I follow the TFP care guide religiously) keeps my water remarkably clear. Though the lights do show a FEW minute particles when turned on at night, it's nothing I obsess about.
