Filling Gap Between Pool and Deck

Hi all. I saw that there is a featured post on this but didn’t want to interfere with that homeowners thread.

I’m a fairly new pool owner and am getting ready for the summer season.

There is a gap between my pool and the “decking” I think you call it? I have installed backer rod on most of it now but would like to seal it.

Can you please recommend a couple of options for sealing this? Maybe in tube form so I can do it myself?

On a different note, one small portion has dropped and sits at an angle where a palm tree lives. Is there any method you recommend that is cost effective to lift it?

Thank you all!

Hey there.. You can use Deck-o-seal one step for the tile to coping sealing..

In this picture you should fix this tile piece.. Where I drew the black line is where the deck o seal should be.. that tile needs to be dropped down with the rest of them.. if it stays the same the only issue will be that tile piece will break so not a total loss..

As for the coping being tilted towards the pool, that is the tree roots doing it.. Your best option is to take the tree out so it no longer can damage the pool.. It is starting with the coping, the next damage will be the pool shell and that will cost major money to get fixed..

Once the tree and root are gone the coping will need to be removed, reset and installed again...

I hope this helps :)

This is very helpful thank you. I looked at the specs on deck-o-seal.. looks like the maximum thickness of install is 1". Looks like I'm going need like $800 worth lol.

Some of the gaps are closer to 2". Do you have any suggestions for that? Maybe I just need to hire a professional at this point? :)

I do not know of anything that will do 2 inch... How was the coping secured to the bond beam of the pool.. the gap should be exactly the same 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch from the tile to the coping... Sounds like you have a lot of coping movement and probably need to reset all the coping back to the correct gap...

From what I can tell, one side of the pool looks like it may have dropped an inch or so. My guess is the previous owner had a leak that they let continue until erosion caused the pool to drop. Either that or the palm trees planted around the pool lifted the deck almost uniformly around one side of the pool?

I can't imagine a material that will do 2" either. I may just seal up the 1" gaps and just live with the 2" gaps having the waterproof backer rod in place until I can afford to have someone come and reset the deck. :(

Thanks for your help!

There may be something out there and the deck o seal may work just fine it just may tale LOTS of it to fill the cracks... :)
