On May 28th, 2022 we finally finished our pool project and they plastered and filled it up with water.

Since then we have not had to fill it with water. I guess that’s a good thing meaning it’s probably not leaking. The one time after a week of really hot weather the water level was low and was getting to the point where I was going to fill it up with water. Then it poured for a day and the water level in the pool was perfect again.

Here are my test results from my last test , last night around 8 p.m.

FC- 4
CC- 0
PH- 7.6
TA- 80
CH- 280
CYA- 50

I have a water softener at my house that I have an option to bypass.

My question is - when filling the pool with water should I fill it and leave the softener on or should I bypass the softener and then fill the pool ?

I tested the water with the softener on and here are my results:
TA- 200
CH- 20

I also tested the water with the softener off and here are my results:
TA- 160
CH- 200

Thanks in advance!

Your pool water does not need more calcium. If the CH stays above 250 ppm, use the softened water.

I suspect it might not matter much as you get rain that fills the pool most of the time, as you stated.

Some of that answer depends on just how much rain you get. If you live in an arid climate, your CH can build to unaccep0tabl levels. But you are blessed to fill with 20 ppm water if you need to reduce. You have a perfect set up. Simply monitor your CH every 30 days or so and keep it roughly between 250-400.
