FC Levels OK But Pool Turning Green

We’ve had our SWG pool up since Memorial Day and this is the first time I’ve had a problem with it.

The FC levels have been fine. I’ve still been having to supplement with bleach but without it’s been 5.5 so I add enough to bump it up to 7.

I’m assuming I need to SLAM it? I’m new to taking care of a pool so I’d love to know what went wrong!

Here’s my latest #s and a pic of the water. Hard to tell but it’s got a greenish tint and kinda smells.

CC is 0.5

Please make a signature with your pools details so we can better assist you. I'd suggest looking at other posts to see how to make one. I'd definitely like to know what kind of test kit you are using.

As the Pool Math suggests. 80 CYA is to be desired. However, since I am suggesting a SLAM, keeping it at 60 will be better for the process, even though we recommend 30 ppm. Have a look at the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] and see what your FC level must be according to your current CYA level. Also be sure to get your pH down to 7.2 before you start the SLAM.

Ugh sorry I made a signature months ago but I’m using the Tapatalk app and it doesn’t seem to show. I’ll get on the computer tomorrow and try to add it.

I’m using the K2006 (and TF-100 for some of the things I’ve run out of) and K-1766 for saltwater levels. I always do the FAS-DPD chlorine test each time because I wanted exact numbers instead of that 5-10 range.

Are you using the Intex SWG? I’ve had success with just running it in boost mode for a cycle and it gets everything where it should be without have to spend more $$ on bleach.

Boost mode makes the SWG run continuously for 3-4x what it is set for.

TFP generally discourages the use of "boost" mode for SLAMing a pool. The idea behind SLAM dosage is a sudden elevation in FC and then keeping that elevation until your pool is clear.

In fact TFP suggests that your SEG be turned off during SLAM so you can precisely test and dose your FC.

"Boost" doesn't really raise your FC as suddenly as it should and it is extra wear and tear on your cell.

Once the SLAM is complete and your FC has drifted back down to normal levels, turn the SWG back on.
