Extremely High CC

I just opened our pool last Sunday night and found that we had some mud throughout the bottom of it from a rain storm over winter. I ran my pump and filters non-stop for several days and it was fairly clear by Tuesday. I got the Ph down to 7.2 and wanted to start the SLAM process. Surprisingly, my chlorine level was .5 but my CC was off the charts - close to 15!!! it surprised me because the water is very clear. I started the SLAM PROCESS but was a little short on bleach. Day 1(Wednesday night)- put in 5 bottles. Day 2(Thursday night) put in 9 bottles. Was sick and couldn’t test and add bleach yesterday. Now, I just checked and the chlorine level is still showing .5 with the CC being 12.5. Does that sound right? At this rate, it may take atleast one week at full slam to get this under control? Would adding chlorine every hour increase the speed of this process?:(

Did you use Jack's #2 copper and scale stuff?

Looks like it worked, but it locks up the chlorine for weeks.

It's sulfamic acid that is combined with the chlorine.

Just ignore the CC and use TC as FC.

I used the Jacks products back in the Fall, September-October before we closed the pool. You think that is causing the crazy #’s?? This should go away in a couple weeks?
That is just about the only thing that will create CC that high.

It might take months to diminish.

I would just wait it out and not worry about it too much.

Use TC as FC and periodically do an OCLT to make sure that nothing is growing.

Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

I just figured since the FC number hadn’t changed at all after putting all that bleach in; it must be eating away at something. I’m just a little surprised it’s so Dang high with such a clean clear pool.

Yes, I had the SWG running along with adding bleach and I was still seeing a big FC loss each day. I’m going to shutoff the SWG for the time being to get better gauge on actual FC loss and get this under control. With regard to SLAMMING, I’ve seen mixed info on whether it makes sense to add bleach during the day. Is there any benefit in adding bleach throughout the day vs ALL at night when the sun goes down? I want to fix this fast because kids want to swim but it’s gonna be 85 today and mostly sunny all day. I’m worried that I’m the sun is eating up most of what I put in the pool.
