Extra Pump Needed

We are building a 500 sq ft free form pool with no spa, and 3 sheer descents, and solar heating.

PB wants me to have a Jandy PlusHP variable speed pump plus a Jandy waterfeature pump.

I have read that I should be able to operate this all at once on just the variable speed pump. So do I need the second pump? Thoughts?

Solar heating does not really raise the pump requirement much. So as long as you are happy with having most/all the water return to the pool through the sheers instead of the return jets, I would think 1 pump should be fine.

If you plan to run the sheers a LOT every day (which will raise the pH btw), then you might want separate pumps so that you still have good circulation.

But if you are only going to turn the sheers on when you are out using the pool and will still have hours of run time through the normal return jets, then 1 pump should be good.
