Considering getting a new deck with cantilever edge, all exposed aggregate. The concrete company told me if I have exposed aggregate on the edge, concrete will get into the pool water. Has anyone had experience with this and if so, how difficult is it and what is the method for removing concrete from the pool water?

BB,

Have you ever walked on exposed aggregate decking in your bare feet???

For me, it is the worst possible choice for pool decking.

Sorry, I can't directly answer your question..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Agree that exposed aggregate decks are not comfortable on bare feet. Just too many pressure points. Don't get it unless all members of your family have spent time walking on it. And walking on it with pool softened feet makes it worse.

The original deck is exposed aggregate and it's not uncomfortable to walk on barefoot and we like the way it looks. This pool deck is narrow on one long side and because of that it's more important to have grip so no one ever slips and falls in accidentally.

Sacramento summer heat and exposed aggregate equals uncomfortably hot decking. Add the possible uncomfortable texture on bare feet and you may have your answer.

BB -

The house I bought last summer has an aggregate patio around the pool. My biggest complaint about it is the tiny pebbles that break loose and end up in the pool (and in the house on the hardwood floors). I'm constantly vacuuming them up from the pool stairs and on the pool floor around the stairs. I doubt they could do any damage to my liner, but you definitely know it when you step on one. Sealing the aggregate will probably help my problem, but that project is way, way down my to-do list!

Like others have said, lots of complaints at first from the family about how rough it is on their feet, but I don't hear about it as much as I used to, so maybe their feet have toughened up a little! That said, whenever I redo the pool/patio, the aggregate will be replaced with pavers or something else.

Hope that helps!

Jeff
