What would be an expected amount of water loss on a pool with an autocover during the winter months? I naïvely thought it would be 0, but my pool is showing otherwise. I really only noticed because the outline of my recessed spa was showing. I'm assuming it's normal or within reason to lose .5-1" a month?

It’s never going to be zero. There’s always going to some minimal evaporation where the cover does not come in contact with the water as well as drag out from opening and closing the cover (which should be done regularly to let the pool off gas a bit). 1” in 30 days is, for intents and purposes, zero. Typical open pools can lose 1/4”-3/4” per day.

Good point on the loss to drag, I didn't think of that. I also realized there is probably a little loss when we squeegee excess water to the cover pump after heavy rains. There are always some small waves under the cover that I'm sure spill out of the cover box end.

Newbie pool owner questions... it like having a first kid all over again. Lot of "Is this normal?" questions.
