Hi,

I've been looking into changing over to a SWG next year or even this year prior to closing the pool. Does a SWG require having to change your pump? I was wondering if $1,200-$1,600 is a good estimate for the unit and to install it, including the electrical work?

He cledee !! Converting does not require any pump change but most folks need to run the pump longer than they do to achieve chlorine production, so it might not make financial sense to leave a SS pump.

The Pentair IC40 is going about $1500 with the power center if you can score one from one of the places that haven’t gouged the prices for low inventory. The other brands are selling in a similar range for an equally rated unit. It can be wired to 110V so most folks dont need extensive electric work done. The plumbing is fairly simple too, assuming there is room for it. I’d probably assume $500 for the install to cover parts and labor. We have walked many folks through it if you or any friends/family are handy.

How long would you need to run a SS pump with a SWG in order to achieve required results. I currently run it between 10-12 hours.

A unit rated for 2X would need to run 12 hours on average in the peak season and less on either end. It would work pretty well with what you already run. Some folks are running 4-6 hours and it would be a big add in hours. (y)

* the units are rated assuming 100% runtime. A 2X unit would need 12 hours and a 3X unit would need 8.
