I have a 30,000 gallon chlorine pool with pentair 2 speed pump and 36 sq ft sta rite DE (I use fiberclear) stainless filter. I'm planning to switch to salt using a pentair intellichlor IC60. I'm also thinking about replacing filter to get rid of stainless tank and am thinking about getting a pentair fns DE filter, but am wondering if I should get a 45 or a 60 sq ft filter?

My second question is that I'm hoping to generate chlorine when the pump is running on low speed - any thoughts on that likelihood? Are there big advantages of the intelliflo over the 2 speed pentair?

Thanks in advance

Heinz,

I am a huge Pentair fan, but even I would not buy the IntelliChlor as a standalone unit. They are made to be used with a Pentair automation system.

For a standalone unit I'd go with a CircuPool salt system.

As far as the filter goes, the bigger the better. The bigger the filter the less often you have to backwash or clean it.

A 2-speed pump, on low, runs at 1750 RPM.. An IntelliFlo will run a SWCG at 1000 to 1200 RPM, so I'm sure a 2-speed at 1750 will turn on a salt cell.

There is not a whole lot of electrical savings between 1200 and 1750, but there is some. I run my IntelliFlo 24/7, mostly at 1200 RPM for less than $20 bucks a month.

Thanks,

Jim R.
