Holy Crud, we just had a 4.8 earthquake in Whitehouse, NJ which is right down the road 5mins from me here in Branchburg, NJ. My God the noise which I wasn't prepared made me for a second think NYC just was vaporized by a small nuke. I looked right away east for a mushroom cloud. Second thought was meteor in atmosphere exloded because my house shook like a huge explosion occurred. Now I'm thinking after calming down please no cracked pool pipes, etc.

4.8 is pretty weak.

The one in Taiwan was about 400 times bigger.

The sound was so loud seriously I lived through 9-11 in NYC walking out of the trade centers that morning and I don't panic but this noise literally sounded and felt like a massive explosion. After no mushroom cloud I thought did a small meteor explode In the upper atmosphere like happened in Russia a few years ago.

A large earthquake that rocked New Jersey and surrounding states Friday morning has been followed by an aftershock quake with a magnitude of 2.0, according to officials from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The aftershock occurred about 12:20 p.m. and was centered west of Bedminster in Somerset County, the USGS reported.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries or structural damage in the region from the main quake or the aftershock.

Another aftershock of 4.0. Loud but nowhere near like this am. Double the depth on this one.
