Does Muriatic Acid go bad?

I didn’t use any Muriatic Acid last year and have about a half gallon left. As mentioned in another thread, I’m selling my house and wondering how to handle the pool chemicals. Most of what I have is in dry powder form. The muriatic acid is liquid in a jug. Should I keep it for the new home owners or does it go bad and I should just get rid of it. I’m doing a hazardous waste disposal run before I vacate the house to get rid of those types of stuff wondering if the MA should go with the other things I need to get rid of.

It does not go bad. When I first started taking care of my own pool and bought muriatic acid it had an expiration date but the lovely people here told me that I should ignore it and I did and it was fine.

I'd sleep better bringing it to the hazardous waste disposal. If the new people hurt themselves with their own chemicals, thats not on me.

They may or may not have a clue about pool care. Or any care for that matter.

Agree with above. If the new people don’t want it and you want a clean break better to find a place to dispose of it. If you know of a local pool guy they may also take it off your hands.

I would get rid of everything and let the new owners deal with the pool chemicals. Chances are they’ll hire a pool service and those chemicals will just sit anyway. When we bought our home I hated that the previous owner left about 50 one-gallon paint cans in the garage. Most of them didn’t even match any color in the home. They just basically left all their chemicals and paints behind because they didn’t want to drive all the way out to the waste disposal facilities.

Be nice, and dispose of everything. Leave behind a list of what you dispose of in case they care to know.

Is your place open all the time ? My town takes the stuff twice a year. By the time you find a seller and have a 90 to 100 day closing, it might be fall even if things go smoothly.

Yes. There’s a nominal fee but it’s available year round. $5 for the first 100 pounds, .75 for each pound over. I really appreciate that they provide that service. The city contracted with a local company that handles hazardous waste and we drop it off there. They take all sorts of things, including e-waste.
