Do salt water pools require a special pump and motor?

I converted my 13 year old chlorine above ground pool to salt water 4 years ago but kept the original Hayward sand filter and pump. I did replace the motor about 6 years ago. For the last year it is leaking from around the motor shaft that fits into the water pump. We would like to fix or replace it before opening the pool this year.

Do you suggest replacing the seal or replacing the pump?

My question is, do salt water pools require a special Pump, filter or motor?

All pumps and motors for pool use are rated for saltwater (low levels used in pools).
