I wonder if this question has been posted before (sorry!) — but my search of the forums just turned up information on troubleshooting broken/stuck loop loc anchors…

Do functioning Loop-Loc anchors require any “Preventative Maintenance”?

I'm planning on opening tomorrow, for the first time on my own (yay!). Should I do any “PM” on my brass Loop-Loc anchors before screwing them down flush with the concrete deck?

1) For example, is it worth unscrewing each anchor and flushing the housings with a garden hose? Or is that overkill if they're working fine?

2) What about lubricating the screws? I'm guessing that WD-40 might not be ideal since it can attract more dirt. But should I spray them with a dirt-repelling lubricant, such as graphite or silicone?

3) I know that one of my anchors is slightly loose (the brass housing spins in the concrete, although its screw can still be turned). Should I try to reinforce the connection between the loose brass housing and the concrete, or just leave it alone since it's still mostly functional? If I did, what would I use — 2 part 5min epoxy, or maybe marine adhesive? I saw some TFP threads on this, but wasn’t clear on the final answer.

Appreciate any other advice and tips!

Each Spring and fall some members do the following:

  • Unscrew the inside anchor from its base
  • Rinse off all the dirt from the threads and let dry
  • Then use silicone lube on the threads.

It should be entirely functional in concrete. All of the force applied to it is lateral and the patio isn't gonna budge. I prefer my loose anchor tubes that pull easy. Several years in many are stubborn after sitting untouched for 6 months each time and I pop them out for better leverage breaking the screw loose. (Or tightening).

It took me a bit even knowing it was there. First I wanted safety cover anchors, then up to C for cover anchors, then A for anchors. Some adult words were said. Then I got lucky at P. :ROFLMAO:

Although…

You guys are using words like “maybe” and “some members”… I sense equivocation

If I asked “do I need to SLAM this green pool?” I wouldn’t get any “maybes”! :ROFLMAO:

So is this overkill? Do other/some/many members just skip this step in the spring?

I skip it. 4 or 5 are stubborn each time. I pull them, take them apart and they go back together fine for next time.

My old pool anchors were 8 seasons old when we moved so it worked for at least that long.

Nice. That sounds good to me. I’ll probably clean out any anchors that look/feel particularly problematic — and skip those that look fine. If it ain’t broke, and all that…
