Do I need to clean my filter cartridges after I get rid of my Algae?

Soooo, you guessed it. I had an algae outbreak, I luckily caught it early. Got all my testing done, brought CYA up to 30, PH, Alkalinity and such were in balance and then I SLAM for about 2 days.

I now have that dead algae dust, on the bottom of my pool. I don’t have a pool vacuum (can’t afford one this year), so I turned on the filter and brushed as much to the filters as I could.

1. Now, should I clean my filters or will it be ok for the season?
I cleaned my filter in January after I did a No-Phos treatment that Leslie’s advised. I was new and naive then, LOL.

2. Also, to keep algae away can I do a little No-Phos and not have to clean my filter every time?

3. Final Question, I get full sun on my pool and we get highs of 115 in the summer, I lose a lot of Chlorine and Water with the sun and heat. Will a stabilizer help me with my chlorine being eaten by the sun or do I just have to keep on it during the season?

Thanks in advance.

I have a plaster/cement in ground 15k Gal pool with a Northstar Hayward cartridge filter system, and a Polaris 280 sweep.

Hello! To your questions:
1 - No need to clean/soak filters after a SLAM. The chlorine did that for you. All you have to do is rinse them when they get dirty (filter pressure increases by about 25%)..
2 - The best remedy to keep algae away is to keep the FC in the proper range (based on your CYA) as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. If you elect to use a phosphate remover, that's up to you, but we recommend a better quality product PR like those from Orenda or Seaklear. That local pool store stuff is weak. But hey, you bought it, so might as well use it up. But remember, chlorine is the primary defender against algae.
3 -All of us from CA to TX get blazing hot sun at/above 110. I'm full sun as well. Other than the fact it can make the water too warm at times, you need to have a good CYA level of protection for your chlorine (FC). If you are using liquid chlorine, I'd say a CYA of 50 - 60 minimum. When I was using liquid, my CYA was always 60 minimum, often times 70. But be careful! Again, if you increase the CYA, your FC must increase with it as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. That chart and the proper FC level is key.
