I figured you sharp guys and gals would enjoy this, and I know some will turn their nose up, but it's all good.
So I have a 3hp IntelliFlo and also solar heating on my roof controlled by a Hayward solar automation controller with actuator valve. Previously I had the pump on two time schedules where it would run a higher speed during the time the panels were in sun to get adequate flow through the circuit and then switch to a lower speed around the time they went in the shade and continuing until the next morning. This worked okay but didn't help when the pool maintained it's temp or when it was cloudy or rainy outside and there was no heating happening. I made this controller that would trigger a manual speed button on the pump depending on if it commanded heating. I've had it installed about a month and it's been fantastic. Total cost is around $85. I think it's a great alternative to the expensive commercial options out there. If I didn't have to solder onto the pump keypad and drill for the weatherproof plug, I think it would be a great kit to sell, but the install would be too much for most.
