Diving board or slide?

After 30 yrs, the current SR Smith diving board is shot, and very unsafe. It may or may not be "legal" for my pool with current standards. I'd just take it out - but there is a above deck electrical junction box under the rear end that would be a trip hazard/eyesore. So looking at replacement. Given the surface rust on the frame, probably should be the whole thing.
But, the other person here said "Get a slide instead. It would be more fun."
Reality is we won't be here for many years - it is only the granddaughter that occasionally visits that would use either. And I doubt the dogs, who use the pool the most, care.
So it comes down to "curb appeal" and resale value for the house.
Being Minnesota, pools sometimes can be a detriment to a sale. There is the care and feeding of a slide vs a diving board, especially over winter or due to little use...

We had one of those giant inflatable water slides before the pool. Once the kids were most of the way through elementary school, going up the slide was more fun than going down it and it got dangerous quick with some friends over, no matter how much we stood there being the fun police.

We tossed it knowing when we built the pool and when I asked the PB about installing a slide, he said he had just removed his because his grandkids were getting hurt trying to go up it all the time. The anecdote hit pretty hard, and we went with a diving board. It's not foolproof, but at least the kids can't knock their heads going the wrong direction.

For resale purposes, I don't think it matters. I did the showings when we moved because the realtor wasn't allowed on the property during the covid restrictions. The buyers realtor was, but not the sellers. Anywho I showed 25 family's the house and half didn't even want the pool. The other half were all 'yup, that's a pool and we'll use it' instead of focusing on any details.

You could remove the diving board and supporting frame. Then build a box over the raised electric box and put a flowering plant on top of it. It will add aesthetic appeal while mitigating the trip hazard.
