Decided over a month ago to go the AGP route after discussing for several years. Finally at a point we could cash flow it. Placed order with local company, they quickly cashed our check, and we got excited. Watched as al the pools sold out online over the past 3 weeks, but glad we got ours in when we did! We were told it would be after Memorial Day for install. Bummed, but ok, better than never! Been learning all I can from TFP. Ordered my test kits... I’m ready! Just to get a call today that the order is canceled and they can’t fulfill it due to supplier being shutdown. Seriously in tears. If they had told us week one, we had a chance to find a replacement. Not so much now. I guess for now it’s adios to TFP... but reality is that I’ll probably continue stalking and living vicariously through those pretty pictures here.

What’s the shelf life of TF100 and K1766 test kits? ???*swims off to delete signature*???

That STINKS !!! But there was 100 ways it could have gone south. There have been a few people so far that go theirs mostly up only to have leaks/rips and be in your boat. It doesn’t take your sting away though and for that I’m sorry.

Any hey, things do become available everyday so there is no telling what next week will bring. We will root for you until it works out.

Thanks, Newdude! Great perspective. ? I usually do see the bright-side of any situation, and I probably will tomorrow. Just wallowing in the shock for a bit today. ?

Don't give up! It's only the end of May. There is still plenty of swim time left this year. In fact, for me it hasn't even started. I haven't even been in my pool except for setting it up two weeks ago. It's been too cold. It's still cool today but at least the sun is out and the water looks so nice I'm seriously thinking of jumping in. I might have to put my shorty wetsuit on though. It wouldn't be the first time.

As for your test kit and chemicals, keep them. I ordered a chemical refresh for my TF100 in 2018 but didn't set the pool up that year or the next. I still had the sealed mailing envelope containing the testing chemicals so I started using them this year and it seems fine. Chemistry people might argue, and normally I do refresh my chemicals every year but I missed the sales earlier this year so I decided to just use what I had and so far so good.

I'm so sorry for your plight! But never fear, there are usually sales around July 4 and Labor Day on pool kits -- how they can be sold out on Memorial Day and then do "clearance sales" in July and September is a mystery...

Those kits have a shelf life of one to two years, depending on what the expiration date is. It's printed on the side of each bottle. If there's no exp date, it's good forever. The DPD powder is good even when it's kind of crunchy -- as long as it turns the water red, it's good. I can't really think of any of the reagents that would go bad after a year in indoor storage. (Funny: when I typed "indoor" the first suggestion for the next word was "pool"!)

Here's hoping you find a GREAT pool serendipitously!!

I did a Google search on 24' Quantum above ground pool and this is what I got.

The first three results all had stock ready to ship. Does that pool (nice one, too) come with a real pump and filter, or were you going to replace the dinky one?

After year two I will give you my non TFP approved idea for using chemicals beyond their date. Buy new ones or an alternative kit for some of the chemicals. Test against the newer kit. If it's still reading the same, use the old chemicals for everyday testing until you run out or a weekly verification with the new chemicals shows them failing. But this is unofficial from someone who will squeeze a nickel until the Buffalo is riding the Indian...

And.. call around on the pool. If there is a will there is usually a way. Especially when you want to buy something.

Thanks everyone!!! Found one 4 hours away (thanks for the links above), but they don’t ship and the package options were less than ideal at a premium price ($1k+ more). Going to keep my eyes open for future opportunities. Hubs and I want a turnkey project and maybe we just need to be patient. Also got a reduction in pay coming due to covid+industry cycle... found that out today, too. That pool pkg refund will be timely. (Maybe that’s the “why” in all of this!) Going to put on my big girl swimsuit and keep researching and moving forward. I’ll get my swimmin’ hole at some point. Meanwhile, keep posting those beautiful pics of crystal clear TFP waters. Thanks again, all!

You may also want to keep an eye out for a good used pool you can get for cheap. A lot of people are buying AGP this year since most public pools are not open. City of Houston already announced they will not open any public pools and splash pads this summer. Increased demand and a slow down in production have lead to a shortage.

Maybe the Universe knew all along and tossed you a favor. It might be a hugely unpopular favor, but possibly one you needed.

Today we cry together. Tomorrow we find you a dang pool !!!!!
I took your advice, @Newdude... I cried yesterday (real tears), and today I found a pool!
It’s not my dream AGP with turnkey install, but it holds water (we hope) and is deeper than a kiddie pool. ?
The neighbor/friend/electrician who ran the power for our ordered pool had mentioned he bought an Intex (18’ x 48” Ultra Frame) for his teenagers a summer (or two) ago and they didn’t use it so he stored it. Today, I reached out to his wife and she said it was ours if it would work. Hubs picked it up tonight and we laid out the liner and did a quick brush off. All seems ok, with exception to one small/patchable hole we found. They have to fish out the pump from storage, so that’s still a mystery (but he bought an upgraded pump, so we are hopeful it still works). Will still need to piece parts together, like a tarp/pad, filter, and hoses/clamps... but we have a pool!!! (And a project, haha)

That's fantastic, Fish! Glad you're gonna be pooling with the rest of us this year!

it should have all the parts you need in the box -- hoses, clamps, groundcloth. I recommend getting a Gorilla or Rhino Pad to put on the groundcloth under the pool. Be sure to LEVEL, LEVEL, LEVEL. Spray the site well with RoundUp, and sprinkle diatomaceous earth in the dirt before you put any thing on it. You don't want anything growing up through the liner, and you don't want ants living under the pool chewing microholes in the liner either.

Have fun!!
