Difference with different backgrounds pH test

Hey, I am having a tough time determining the value of my pH test. I was wondering if it is ok to hold the test up to a indoor white light (covered by a white cover) to read the test. Wondering if it results will vary depending on location.

I think it should be fine, I usually hold a blank piece of paper for background.

I used to have a really hard time w Ph test and distinguishing colors so began asking my wife and daughter (both artistic and great at seeing little nuances in different colors) for a 2nd opinion and finally realized it never materially differed from what I saw.

I do find looking for specific shades of colors helps.... it does look high, but is there really that much purple in there? Nope still a lot of orange so it's really more mid 7s, as an example.

It's a test that you just get used to ( hold mine up to the blue sky!) after a while and, remember, any result in the 7's is just fine. You can easily detect a result above 7.8 or below 7.0

Two additional techniques:

1. Try holding the block sideways or upside down. Sometimes that helps distinguish colors better.

2. Hold the block in front of your computer monitor with a blank white screen displayed (I use Google's homepage).
